Hannover Re, one of Europe’s leading reinsurers, has named Lena Kettler its first-ever Global Head of Claims for Property & Casualty (P&C)—a new role established by the company and based at its Hannover, Germany offices.
Kettler has nearly 20 years of insurance and reinsurance experience, with a successful track record in claims handling and underwriting. Her appointment is part of Hannover Re’s ongoing effort to increase operational integration among its global offices.
“Lena’s extensive experience across underwriting, claims, and financial processes will foster closer collaboration between our central and regional units,” a company spokesperson said.
Seasoned Claims Professional with Global Experience
Before, Kettler held a number of senior roles at HDI Global, most recently as Global Head of Claims, a role she assumed in 2023. She played a key part in building the claims capability for HDI Global Specialty, leading the development of operational foundations and guiding the team through a period of evolution and expansion.
Her HDI career began in 2019 when she joined as Head of Claims for HSGE. She then served as general manager and head of claims for the home office before taking up her global leadership role.
Industry Tenure at Swiss Re and Inter Hannover
Earlier in her career, Kettler spent almost six years at Inter Hannover (International Insurance Company of Hannover SE) in various operational and leadership positions. Her career also encompasses time at both Swiss Re and Hannover Rück-Gruppe, giving her broad experience in the reinsurance market.
The strategic appointment also rounds out Hannover Re’s leadership team as it transforms in parallel with developing claims concerns in the global P&C market.
